CLOSED FOR THE BALANCE OF THE SEASON

We are disappointed to announce that our Orchard and Country Store will be closed for the balance of the 2022 season.

Due to the severe dry weather this past summer, most of our fruit has either fallen off the trees or is severely fruit damaged on the trees. Hopefully, next year’s crop will yield better results. Thank you for all of your support.

Our History and Heritage

OUR HISTORY

ROOTED IN HERITAGE

Gerstner Farm was founded in 2007 when the owner…Rob Gerstner purchased the property from a local Real Estate company. The property was formerly set up as a Dairy Farm, going back as early as the late 1800’s. The family that owned the property for years was the White’s family and ran the Dairy farm for over 100 years. We are excited to be carrying on the tradition of working hard on this land to generate incredible results. All of the trees were planted in the spring of 2011 from saplings that we purchased from Cummins Nursery in Ithaca, NY. Each year, we have put down a new, fresh layer of bulk mulch under each of the trees, building up incredibly rich organic matter at the base of each tree.

This is how the trees are fertilized – naturally and we have never once used a synthetic fertilizer to promote the growth of the trees and apples. The ground in this area is very rocky and we believe that since the trees are planted in this type of soil, as well as the years of mulch being applied to the bases of the trees, that this is why we have such amazing apple quality each and every year. Like those that worked this ground for so many years ahead of us, we take pride in what we are doing here at Gerstner Farm and look forward to passing along these high-quality products to our customers each and every year.

OUR LAND

“you never really own a piece of land, rather - you just take care of it for a while”

This farm is rooted deep in history, with Dairy farming that goes back over 125 years back. Nestled in a valley, in an area where the weather can be as rustic as the land itself, this zone 4 climate is similar to many southern Canada fruit farms where the trees have to fight for survival in the winter months and flourish with greenery and vibrant fruit crops through the summer and into the fall seasons. The original barn, silo and ice house are still up and intact. These structures were built between the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Dairy cows roaming the same grounds where the apple trees are planted are one of the main reasons why the farm yields such high level quality fruit each year. The hard work that was poured into this land by the families from years ago have transferred into today’s Gerstner Farm team applying equal effort and pride in making this a special place. As many have said before, “you never really own a piece of land, rather – you just take care of it for a while”.
